Speaking About Childlessness

Recently, we held a Culture Club chat in the Full Stop Community. It’s our monthly chat about books, podcasts, films, TV or events that our community friends have enjoyed and recommended. We said the ‘c’ word (childless) only once.

We often say it a lot more than this in other spaces! Over the past year, we’ve been talking outside the Full Stop to a wider audience to raise awareness of the library of voices and support available for those who are childless and people who share their personal or professional lives.

  • Sarah was part of More To Life’s series on living a childless life, bringing her lived experiences and those heard through the Full Stop podcast to the talk to inform the audience on coping tools.

  • Michael attended FSANZ (Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand) to discuss men and childlessness with wellbeing and medical teams working in infertility settings.

  • Berenice was on the Creatively Eccentric podcast and Women in Business podcast, sharing how not everyone in business is doing for their children - opening up the narrative can help the next generation.

We also attend other events, online and in person, as speakers, such as Storyhouse Childless and The Fertility Show. This moves childlessness into wider environments where it matters just as much and has the power to make changes. We do so in an inclusive way towards childless, childfree, and parents, so our words are audience-appropriate.

Berenice has speaker training via The College of Speaking (and used to co-run Cambridge Pecha Kucha). Michael and Sarah bring warmth and experiences to their work, and a wealth of information. Michael is one of the few men talking emotively and practically about men and childlessness, and Sarah has years of practical experience as a counsellor and delivering workshops for Gateway Women.

If you would like us to attend your event as a speaker or be a guest on your podcast, send us the details and let’s see what we can do.
